All Wheel Skateparks: Spaces for Everyone

The Skatepark Project (TSP), formerly known as the Tony Hawk Foundation, believes every public skatepark is the result of a partnership between youth, government and local civic organizations. In this session, TSP staff will summarize public skatepark user group typologies and dynamics, explain the roots of exclusionary policy (e.g., “No BMX”), demonstrate updated policy for increased inclusion, answer questions specific to individual municipalities and impart the learner outcomes listed below. Attendees will learn how to utilize best practices to maximize inters-port communication during a) the skatepark development process, b) ongoing skatepark use and c) agency or updated protocol message communication. They will also learn how to utilize best practices for dealing with difficult skatepark users to increase safety and engage in authentic communication wheeled stakeholders.
